About the clinic

A deliberately narrow service. One test, one number, one report, and a doctor to talk it through with.

We give you the actual number your sample produced, read against the threshold a GP would use, and a doctor to talk it through with. Not a pass or a fail.

Your actual figure, not a category

Detection rates vary enormously across the range of results that all get labelled positive. Knowing whether you are at 12 or at 400 is useful information, not a technical detail.

A consultation with every result

Whatever your number turns out to be. A raised result arriving by email at nine at night, with nobody to ask, is a bad way to find something out.

An accredited UK laboratory

Samples are analysed by The Doctors Laboratory, a UKAS accredited medical laboratory, on the same analysers the NHS uses.

Why we built it

Bowel cancer is being diagnosed more often, and increasingly in people too young for the screening programme to reach. Meanwhile the route to a simple stool test is harder to navigate than it should be.

So this is a deliberately narrow service. One test, one number, one report, one conversation. The evidence behind how we report results is set out in full on its own page.

What we will not do

What this is not

It is not a replacement for the NHS. If you are within the screening age range, take the screening kit when it arrives: it is free and it works. If you have symptoms that meet the referral criteria, your GP can arrange a FIT at no cost and refer you onward, which we cannot do directly.

It is also not a registered GP practice and not ongoing care.

Who runs it

Bowel Cancer Test is a service of Pop Up Docs Limited, registered in England, company number 13147400, CQC provider ID 1-11854805327, ICO registration ZB199484. It was founded by Dr Rhea Bhadresha, GP, GMC 7528328. Every result report is written and signed by a GMC registered GP.

Samples are analysed by The Doctors Laboratory, a UKAS accredited medical laboratory, No. 9317, accredited to ISO 15189:2022.

Know your number.

Reported at the threshold a GP would use, with a written report and a telephone consultation included whatever the result.
